Roadify

What is Roadify?

  1. Overview
  2. How We're Starting
  3. The Roadify Team

Roadify is a platform for sharing traveler intelligence. It helps you find parking, catch a train, make a flight, find the best driving route and more, by giving you easy access to real-time information from other commuters and transit data sources (like Google Transit, Traffic.com, MTA, etc.). We think of Roadify as the first comprehensive “social transportation” company, combining social networking with a wealth of published transit information.

By making commuting easier, Roadify saves you time, gas and money, as it promotes cleaner air, alternative fuel, public transit, and more efficient transportation overall.

Roadify is focusing on parking first. We gather information about available parking spots in your area. When you need a spot, you either…

…and Roadify lets you know about parking spots near you at that moment.

ParkingAroundMe — Initially, Roadify focused on the issue of parking pains in the highly condensed Park Slope area of Brooklyn, NY. PAM officially launched in November, 2009, allowing drivers to GIVE and GET available parking spots. The system will work anywhere you do, as long as people are willing to take a minute and share helpful information with one another.

BusesAroundMe — Next, Roadify expanded to include bus information on the B67 bus in Park Slope. Launched in February 2010, BAM allows bus riders to GIVE and GET current bus locations. Stay tuned as other routes are added to the BAM system!

What’s Coming Next — In future phases, we hope to expand commuting intelligence BEYOND parking and buses to include subways, taxis, and even going to airport; basically anything where someone can inform someone else on the road. We’ll provide travelers with everything from first-hand updates about bottlenecks/alternate routes/delays on roads or in airports, to the location of the nearest alternative fueling station. After testing in Brooklyn NY, we’ll hope to expand to a wider section of Brooklyn, then other boroughs, eventually bringing Roadify to other markets outside of NYC. We want Roadify to go wherever you go.

The people behind Roadify are locals like Nick and Megan Nyhan, Mark and Wendy Shewmaker, and Scott Klass - all Park Slope residents who have felt the pain of the neighborhood's street parking problem.

We also recruited folks from other places such as Randy Silang, who Nick met working on Obama campaign down in FL, as well as Ethan Arutunian, who is making the tech happen from Seattle.

We came together because we are all technology fans but also felt we could improve the community in an everyday way. The parking problem in Park Slope seemed like a logical place to start. ParkingAroundMe is the first step, but Roadify is not just about parking and cars. Our goal is to extend the Roadify platform to include info about buses and trains, even airports at some point. Ultimately, we think Roadify can make it easier to commute. We think this will make our community - and any crowded area - a better place.
