Happy Wednesday! Today we’re looking at a couple bus Givers that have taken the B67 bus and made it their own: Ivan and Joe_C.

Joe_C

Joe_C is the completely unselfish type. His stats look something like this: 302 Gives, 31 Gets. At a Give-Get ratio of nearly 10 to 1, it’s not hard to see that Joe_C earns his trophy. Joe’s such a team player that he’s on a Roadify Team that doesn’t even offer an incentive. When asked, he’ll tell you that he just likes to support local businesses. What a guy.

Rank: 31
CARma points: 302
Home turf: Mid Slope
Roadify Team: Barrio
Cool factor: Always wears a smile

Gip_872005

If bus riders were picked like elementary school kickball teams, Gip_872005 would be picked first every time. Gip_872005 is simply consistent. He’s the type that you can depend on day in and day out for a Give and chances are that if you ride the 67 in the morning, you’ve received a Roadify ETA thanks to him once or twice. Gip_872005 is also an textbook bus Getter, as he checks the schedule before he heads out to the bus stop, saving himself a few minutes each morning. And of course, like clockwork, he’ll update that sched with a Give.

Rank: 34
CARma points: 255
Home turf: South Slope
Languages Spoken: English, Spanish, Swahili, Roadify
Cool factor: If you’ve seen a Roadify flyer with Spanish on it, thank Ivan!

Traffic jams are time consuming and frustrating. In NYC more than half of the jams result from a lack of parking spots. A great solution to this is presented by Roadify.

Roadify is a free web service that helps NYC residents find parking space. The spots are updated by the site’s own members. In exchange for sharing spots members are rewarded points known on the site as “Street Carma”. Members can join one of many groups on the site and use their earned points to get various offers such as a free coffee, a pizza slice, a gift voucher, or anything else the group offers.

Nominate your Brooklyn “Do Gooder”

Category: Uncategorized

WHAT? Roadify is proud to support the Brooklyn Community Foundation’s newest project: the Brooklyn Do Gooder Awards Campaign, a borough-wide initiative that seeks to identify and honor those who embody the highest values of community giving and service.

HOW? From now until September 30th, the broader Brooklyn community is invited to visit the Brooklyn Do Gooder website and NOMINATE individuals who display an outstanding sense of giving back locally. VOTING will take place online from October 1 – 15th, and then a judging panel will select five Brooklyn Do Gooders from among 20 finalists to represent the foundation’s five fields of interest: Arts for All, Caring Neighbors, Community Development, Education and Youth Achievement and Green Communities.

WHY? We have a lot of great people doing some pretty amazing things in the borough and hope you’ll join us in recognizing them!

WHAT ELSE? Don’t forget the celebration!  Winners will be recognized for their contributions on November 3, 2010 at the Palm House at the Brooklyn Botanic Garden.

TGIF! In celebration of the weekend, we’re wrapping up a good week of Gives by giving a big shout out to two of our strongest (and sher-est) members: Sherthang and TrishFitz

Sherthang

Ever heard of a Super Giver? Well Sherthang is beyond that. Sherthang is one of the biggest reasons that the B67 is still Roadify most Given bus line.  I mean we’re talking about 1114 CARma points! He lives up to his name everyday, as sher as sher can be.

Rank: 13
CARma points: 1114
Home turf: North Slope
Roadify Team: Invite him to your Team!
Cool factor: Over 1,000 bus Gives?! ‘Nuf said.

TrishFitz

TrishFitz is as good as a gold. One of the biggest reasons we picked Trish for today’s trophy is that she’s a great Giver but she Gets too. If you take a look at her Give to Get ratio, it’s a beautiful sight: close to 1, with a lean towards the Gives. Trish symbolizes how it’s supposed to work for those of us that take the bus: Get and save some time, Give and save someone else some time. Of course, like many Roadifiers, she’s always been inclined to Give more than she Gets :) .

Tuesday’s Trophies

Today’s trophies go to Reckoner and ParkSlopeNotary, two rocking Givers that have provided some crucial feedback and a mountain of Gives.

Park Slope Notary

Park Slope Notary. PSNotes. The Notary. The legend that is Park Slope Notary is hailed by many names and followed by those looking for a parking spot or a legal signature. Anyway you go about it, The Notary is a stand-up Giver and a classy guy whose help has been crucial to our user feedback loop. Notary is Twitter’s all-time greatest Giver (@ParkSlopeNotary), having utilized the microblogging platform to Give spots since as far back as December of last year.

Rank: 5
CARma points: 3756
Home turf: North Slope
Roadify Team: PSNotary (so cool he’s got his own team!)
Cool factor: He doesn’t even own a car! Talk about unselfish.

Reckoner

Reckoner is certainly a Giving force to be reckoned with. An all-star for many reasons, Reckoner rules his turf with his Advanced Gives (those that give a little heads up, like “in 5 min” or “in 1 hr”) allowing others the chance to come claim them. It’s how Roadify was drawn up and he’s a Giving machine, so come and Get ‘em. Reckoner also earned his way into Trophydom through his great feedback and helpful blog comments, several of which you can find by perusing through the Roadify blog. Is he one heck of a Giver? We certainly reckon so.

Today we’re highlighting BassNote and Yazipengyou, two all-star Givers that have been with Roadify since the early days.

BassNote

BassNote has been atop the leader board on Roadify for a long time now. As the most Giving user of All-Time, BassNote has posted an incredible 2739 parking spots and counting! What motivates such a grand quest? A little competition, a bit of fun, and a big heart. He’s our ace in the whole and deserves to have a bronze statue made and put in Grand Army Plaza. Think you can catch the one and only BassNote? Good luck…

CARma points: 9052

Commuting Pet Peeve: Selfish parkers!
Cool factor: plays the Stand-up Bass

Yazipengyou

Yazipegyou is one of the gems of Roadify.  Not only an excellent Giver, Yazi has continued to use Roadify to help her find a spot, even when spots were hard to come by. Her persistence has paid off a couple times and we’re positive that it will pay even more dividends in the future.  Her great attitude helped he become the 13th Roadifiers to pass 1,000 CARma points, and for that we say thanks!

Commuting Pet Peeve: driving in circles

Team FAQ’s

June 14th, 2010 at 7:01 pm, Category: Uncategorized

How do I join a Team?

If you are already a Roadify user, you can join a Team listed below by texting “Join [your Team Tag]”. (If you’re new to Roadify, first text “ROAD” to 95495 before you join a Team). Team Tags are listed below. So if you wanted to join the Roadify Neon Beanie Crew, text “join NeonHats”.

Why should I join a Roadify Team?

The question should be why NOT join a Roadify Team? Aside from getting delicious discounts from cool local businesses, Roadify Teams are a great way to support a cause, promote a new event, or simply get credit for your block’s GIVEs. Whether it’s the “9th Street GIVERs” or “Joe’s Café Crew”, Teams are a fun way to recruit friends, colleagues, and neighbors to participate in Roadify and help change the way we commute on a local level.

How do I make a new Team?

Don’t see your team listed? Want to make your own Team? Click here. You don’t have to be a business to make a Team. Select Block Team to make a street-specific or personal team. As with all of Roadify, it’s free! (We’ll let you when your team is ready to go via email within 24 hours.)

How many Teams can I join?

You can join as many teams as you like! For the time being, only the most recent Team you join will be credited with your GIVES though. So if you join team PPW Powerhouse and THEN team Red Horse Cavalry, your GIVEs will say “Thanks RedHorse!” instead of “Thanks PPWpwr!”. You can change your active team back by logging into your profile or simply texting “join PPWpwr” again.

An interesting idea from a GIVER

June 13th, 2010 at 5:31 pm, Category: Uncategorized

Today, Roadify user genehicks1@aol.com emailed us with an interesting idea about where to park when Park Slope streets are closed for filming (as several are today):

“When film crews appropriate the scarce parking spots it is a real problem for [Park Slope] residents. I do realize that the film industry brings much needed revenue into the city’s coffers, but the inconvenience it creates for us is intolerable. I know this is a city-wide problem, but it really hits home here, in the Slope. I think the city, or the film companies should strike some kind of deal with local garages so that we may park there at times when parking is scarce due to location shooting. There are two garages right around the corner from where I live, on Union between 6th and 7th aves. Thank you for your time, and please, let me know your thoughts. I am willing to go on some kind of campaign to address this issue.”

How do you feel about it? Let Roadify know by emailing info@roadify.com. Let genehicks1@aol.com know too!

Roadify Do’s and Don’ts

June 12th, 2010 at 8:20 pm, Category: Uncategorized

Please DO:

  • Add Roadify to your contacts. Saving our shortcode “95495″ in your cellphone will make it easy to find Roadify anytime you want to GIVE or GET.
  • GIVE your parking spot in advance. If you GIVE five or ten or even thirty minutes before you leave, you’re making your GIVE even more powerful. That way other drives can relax knowing that a spot will be open soon.
  • GIVE the bus’s location as often as you like. Every bus GIVE makes Roadify more accurate. It’s an easy we to rack up the StreetCARma Points!
  • Reply with a spot’s # after you GET. This takes that spot out of the system and reduces the likelihood that someone else with GET the same info.
  • Save your common GIVEs/GETs in Quick Text. Many phones have an option to create your own Quick Text. You can save your home address, like “Get 654 3 st”, or favorite bus stop, like “Get b67 dtwn 7av-6st”. That way you won’t have to type it every time.
  • Tell your friends about us.The more people that use and love Roadify, the better it will work for everyone. A few easy ways to help our community grow is to forward an email from us, share an article, or share us on Facebook.

Please DON’T:

  • DON’T DRIVE DISTRACTED! Our motto is “Spend 30 seconds. Save 30 minutes.” Always pull over and put the car in park before using your cell phone. Always.
  • Don’t Wait around. Your time is too important to spend waiting on someone to show up at your spot. Roadify is not for spot-saving, but rather for providing a friendly heads up.
  • Don’t Give up! Roadify is young (only 3 months old) and we are working hard to make it work better for you. We need you to tell us when something doesn’t feel right. Email us or message us through Twitter.

We hope these help! Leave a comment if you have any other ones.

Tips and Tricks

ROADIFY’S TIPS AND TRICKS
If you’ve ever had a problem giving and getting through Roadify, here are some helpful tips and tricks that might make it easier…

Giving & Getting Buses

  • The text consists of 4 parts: the action, the bus, the direction, and the location.
    • Action: most importantly, start with the word GIVE or GET.
    • Bus: label the bus number AND the borough letter: b67 (no space between)
    • Direction: it’s the end point of the bus route (labeled on the bus stop sign), not necessarily your final destination. While we accept many direction abbreviations, we can’t cover them all. We suggest these because they are short and easy to text.
      • For B67 to Kensington use: kens
      • For B67 to Downtown use: dtwn
      • For B63 to Cobble Hill use: cobble
      • For B63 to Bay Ridge use: bay
    • Location:
      • When Giving: tell us where the bus currently is located (not when it will be at your stop). Try to list the cross-streets closest to the bus at the time you hit send. This will make our estimate as accurate as possible.
      • When Getting: if the system is having trouble recognizing your location, just text exactly how it looks on the top of the bus stop sign.
        • Example: 7 av & union st
      • Make sure to label the streets appropriately. You can abbrev: street= st, avenue=av, place=pl
    • Lastly, don’t forget to include a space between each section.
    • All together it will look like:
      • give b67 dtwn 7 av & union st, or
      • get b63 bay 5 av & Garfield pl

Giving & Getting Parking

  • The text consists of 2 parts: the action and the location.
  • Action: most importantly, you must start with the word GIVE or GET.
  • Location:
    • When Giving: include a nearby landmark or car. “front of blu bmw” or “near hydrant”. Also, label the side of the street the spot is on according to the posted ALT SIDE day like: “thurs side” or “mon side”. This way a user can judge the value of the spot.
  • When Getting: include both cross streets or a nearby address. Like: “get near 6 av & 5 st” or “get 400 6th ave”.
    • Currently, we can’t process Gets in a broad area like “get 6 avenue” or “get 6 st anywhere btw 4-8 aves”.
  • Label the streets appropriately: street= st, avenue=av, place=pl, etc

While our system is automated, occasionally Roadify personnel will text you pointers if they see you are having trouble, in an attempt to solve the problem when it happens. You may be able to respond, but our auto response will still appear. If you’d like more help see our how-to videos or email us at info@roadify.com. Thanks!
