Wednesday’s Trophy Winners
Category: Uncategorized
Happy Wednesday! Today we’re looking at a couple bus Givers that have taken the B67 bus and made it their own: Ivan and Joe_C.
Joe_C
Joe_C is the completely unselfish type. His stats look something like this: 302 Gives, 31 Gets. At a Give-Get ratio of nearly 10 to 1, it’s not hard to see that Joe_C earns his trophy. Joe’s such a team player that he’s on a Roadify Team that doesn’t even offer an incentive. When asked, he’ll tell you that he just likes to support local businesses. What a guy.
Gip_872005
If bus riders were picked like elementary school kickball teams, Gip_872005 would be picked first every time. Gip_872005 is simply consistent. He’s the type that you can depend on day in and day out for a Give and chances are that if you ride the 67 in the morning, you’ve received a Roadify ETA thanks to him once or twice. Gip_872005 is also an textbook bus Getter, as he checks the schedule before he heads out to the bus stop, saving himself a few minutes each morning. And of course, like clockwork, he’ll update that sched with a Give.
Home turf: South Slope Languages Spoken: English, Spanish, Swahili, Roadify Cool factor: If you’ve seen a Roadify flyer with Spanish on it, thank Ivan!
Nominate your Brooklyn “Do Gooder”
Category: Uncategorized
WHAT? Roadify is proud to support the Brooklyn Community Foundation’s newest project: the Brooklyn Do Gooder Awards Campaign, a borough-wide initiative that seeks to identify and honor those who embody the highest values of community giving and service.
HOW? From now until September 30th, the broader Brooklyn community is invited to visit the Brooklyn Do Gooder website and NOMINATE individuals who display an outstanding sense of giving back locally. VOTING will take place online from October 1 – 15th, and then a judging panel will select five Brooklyn Do Gooders from among 20 finalists to represent the foundation’s five fields of interest: Arts for All, Caring Neighbors, Community Development, Education and Youth Achievement and Green Communities.
WHY? We have a lot of great people doing some pretty amazing things in the borough and hope you’ll join us in recognizing them!
WHAT ELSE? Don’t forget the celebration! Winners will be recognized for their contributions on November 3, 2010 at the Palm House at the Brooklyn Botanic Garden.

Friday’s Trophy Winners

TGIF! In celebration of the weekend, we’re wrapping up a good week of Gives by giving a big shout out to two of our strongest (and sher-est) members: Sherthang and TrishFitz
Sherthang
Ever heard of a Super Giver? Well Sherthang is beyond that. Sherthang is one of the biggest reasons that the B67 is still Roadify most Given bus line. I mean we’re talking about 1114 CARma points! He lives up to his name everyday, as sher as sher can be.
TrishFitz
TrishFitz is as good as a gold. One of the biggest reasons we picked Trish for today’s trophy is that she’s a great Giver but she Gets too. If you take a look at her Give to Get ratio, it’s a beautiful sight: close to 1, with a lean towards the Gives. Trish symbolizes how it’s supposed to work for those of us that take the bus: Get and save some time, Give and save someone else some time. Of course, like many Roadifiers, she’s always been inclined to Give more than she Gets

Tuesday’s Trophies
Category: Uncategorized
Today’s trophies go to Reckoner and ParkSlopeNotary, two rocking Givers that have provided some crucial feedback and a mountain of Gives.
Park Slope Notary
Park Slope Notary. PSNotes. The Notary. The legend that is Park Slope Notary is hailed by many names and followed by those looking for a parking spot or a legal signature. Anyway you go about it, The Notary is a stand-up Giver and a classy guy whose help has been crucial to our user feedback loop. Notary is Twitter’s all-time greatest Giver (@ParkSlopeNotary), having utilized the microblogging platform to Give spots since as far back as December of last year.
Home turf: North Slope Roadify Team: PSNotary (so cool he’s got his own team!) Cool factor: He doesn’t even own a car! Talk about unselfish.
Reckoner
Reckoner is certainly a Giving force to be reckoned with. An all-star for many reasons, Reckoner rules his turf with his Advanced Gives (those that give a little heads up, like “in 5 min” or “in 1 hr”) allowing others the chance to come claim them. It’s how Roadify was drawn up and he’s a Giving machine, so come and Get ‘em. Reckoner also earned his way into Trophydom through his great feedback and helpful blog comments, several of which you can find by perusing through the Roadify blog. Is he one heck of a Giver? We certainly reckon so.
And today’s Roadify Trophies go to…
Today we’re highlighting BassNote and Yazipengyou, two all-star Givers that have been with Roadify since the early days.
BassNote
BassNote has been atop the leader board on Roadify for a long time now. As the most Giving user of All-Time, BassNote has posted an incredible 2739 parking spots and counting! What motivates such a grand quest? A little competition, a bit of fun, and a big heart. He’s our ace in the whole and deserves to have a bronze statue made and put in Grand Army Plaza. Think you can catch the one and only BassNote? Good luck…
Yazipengyou
Yazipegyou is one of the gems of Roadify. Not only an excellent Giver, Yazi has continued to use Roadify to help her find a spot, even when spots were hard to come by. Her persistence has paid off a couple times and we’re positive that it will pay even more dividends in the future. Her great attitude helped he become the 13th Roadifiers to pass 1,000 CARma points, and for that we say thanks!

New Bus Directions
Category: Uncategorized
With the MTA bus changes, many of the directions’ names also changed. And since our data is from the MTA, this means what you text to us may have changed. Use the table below to look up your bus route (these are the directions that are on the actual bus stop). Also included are approved synonyms to help make your text as short as possible!

No bus, but still parking tickets?
It turns out that bus riders aren’t the only ones effected by the MTA’s latest rounds of service changes and cuts. Drivers, too, are getting burned for parking in areas left absent by the bus cuts. In neighborhoods where circling and idling cause the majority of local traffic, one would hope that the city would want to make the most of a sour situation by opening up the now unused bus stops. Instead, they’ve continued to ticket vehicle parked in former bus loading zones.
Roadify user Gene H alerted us to this happening along the discontinued B71 route and would like to offer his assistance:
“Now that the Union Street bus has died a slow and painful death, it seems to me a few much needed spots have opened up. I am saddened by the loss of the line, and others are downright really inconvenienced, especially our handicapped brethren, but this does seem like an opportunity not to be missed. I see the DOT is giving out tickets (I saw one on a car on the now defunct Union & 6th stop). I am sure they can fight it, but it is a pain (FYI one can appeal tickets on line). I have done so in the past and either gotten tickets dismissed, or substantially reduced. If you wish to do this, but can’t figure out how to (they kinda hide the process), please let me know and I can help.”
Email info@roadify.com and we’ll put you in contact with Gene.

The Solution is Community
It’s a gut wrenching feeling to walk out to where your car is supposed to be parked and find somebody else’s happily parked vehicle.
First, your mind jumps to theft: broken in, stolen, scrapped and sold for parts. Then, reason tries to butt in: no, I must have parked somewhere else, let me ask a friend, my wife. After you’ve ensured yourself that’s where you parked, it’s time to contact the police: was I towed? do I report it stolen… At this point, most of us expect to be making a trip to the impound or (perhaps worse) filing a police report.
This past Monday, Harold S of Park Slope expected the same. Instead, to his disbelief, when he contacted NYPD, he was told that the police had in fact relocated his red Toyota Camry, but hadn’t bothered to record where they move it to.
Harold was then put in the awkward position of trying to find his needle of a car in the haystack of Park Slope. So he did what many of us wouldn’t think to do and turned to his community. He asked neighbors and friends if they’d seen a Camry with a missing rear hubcap and a dent in the front panel.
Then, he asked a different kind of community for assistance. Though Harold, 75, was unfamiliar with the workings of text messages, Facebook or Twitter, he understood the power of Roadify as a community resource, which he had heard about from a friend a few months back.
Within the hour, Roadify had posted the missing car to its Facebook profile and Tweeted for assistance in the hunt. Responses: “I’m always so terrified this will happen to me. Good thing for Roadifiers to help out
. I’ll keep any eye out when I get back tonight.” “Really? that [the police lost it] is ridiculous! lol.”
Next, they alerted SMS users to be on the look out. Responses: “My car was missing for 2 months. Turned up in red hook body shop. Was towed there after a car hit it while legally parked.” “Tell him to rpt it stolen. It happened to us once and it took 3 days to find it. They had parked our car @ meter and we got 3 tickets pvb refused to throw out.”
The next morning, the Roadify community stepped up the search. The Roadify Crew went out to scout the streets and scour Park Slope (Giving open spots and buses along the way, of course) and came up with a few potentials. They then circled back, picked up Harold and identified the suspects: nope, too short… not red enough… has all its hubcaps…
And then: That’s the one! There it was, a red Toyota Camry with a missing rear hubcap and dent in the front panel, parked comfortably in a shady spot 4 blocks away from where Harold had left it legally parked two days prior. Double checking, Harold hit the unlock button on his key fob and with a happy toot-toot the car responded, as though it had missed its owner, too. With a smile, Harold hopped out of the passenger seat of the Roadifymobile and walked over to his own car, finding it safe and sound against the gut-wrenching pangs and worries.
A lost car in Brooklyn is a hard thing to get back. The hurdles are many, with so many people and cars and no parking signs and alt side regulations and…
But Harold cleared all of those with one simple solution: community. As we continue to improve our service and grow the number of people using it, we look forward to helping many more of the Harolds of the world. So next time you walk to where your car should be and it happens to be somewhere else, do what Harold did and turn to your community: the Roadify Community.
(if it is there, then Give it before you go)

Claiming a Spot
When you are looking for a parking spot, Roadify responds with a numbered list of the most recently GIVEN spots. When you reply with the number of the spot most appealing to you, we know not to send that information out to anyone else. This is our way of making sure that all our Roadify users aren’t converging on one single spot. Also, if you claim a spot then the user who GAVE it gets an extra bonus CARma point! Great!
Team FAQ’s
How do I join a Team?
If you are already a Roadify user, you can join a Team listed below by texting “Join [your Team Tag]”. (If you’re new to Roadify, first text “ROAD” to 95495 before you join a Team). Team Tags are listed below. So if you wanted to join the Roadify Neon Beanie Crew, text “join NeonHats”.
Why should I join a Roadify Team?
The question should be why NOT join a Roadify Team? Aside from getting delicious discounts from cool local businesses, Roadify Teams are a great way to support a cause, promote a new event, or simply get credit for your block’s GIVEs. Whether it’s the “9th Street GIVERs” or “Joe’s Café Crew”, Teams are a fun way to recruit friends, colleagues, and neighbors to participate in Roadify and help change the way we commute on a local level.
How do I make a new Team?
Don’t see your team listed? Want to make your own Team? Click here. You don’t have to be a business to make a Team. Select Block Team to make a street-specific or personal team. As with all of Roadify, it’s free! (We’ll let you when your team is ready to go via email within 24 hours.)
How many Teams can I join?
You can join as many teams as you like! For the time being, only the most recent Team you join will be credited with your GIVES though. So if you join team PPW Powerhouse and THEN team Red Horse Cavalry, your GIVEs will say “Thanks RedHorse!” instead of “Thanks PPWpwr!”. You can change your active team back by logging into your profile or simply texting “join PPWpwr” again.
